This is the 4th big Condor that I have purchased I loves me a big blade . Each in its own way is a really great tool I ll go on record as saying that Condor and Ontario Knife make among the best, if not THE best, knives that you can find in their price range. Sure, there are many wonderfully fine knives out there, but these two companies provide excellent products at a relatively modest cost. I have the four Condors and maybe a half-dozen Ontarios I love the Ranger series , and without exception, their knives have come to me showing superb fit and finish. Flawless Okay, sure, I have to work with them to achieve the degree of sharpness that I want, but that s part of the enjoyment of owning knives. It might take a shorter time or it might take a longer time, but they all end up being wicked sharp. Now this Solobolo has a lot to offer, if a bigger and heavier blade is needed. It s heft is offset, in my opinion, by the good balance. That long handle with its micarta scales is a joy to hold, as comfortable as any I have ever picked up. Using a lanyard, the hand can be moved way back and thus, with its weight and the length of the blade, this knife is an exceptionally strong chopper. Better than a hatchet or camp axe, in my opinion. Condor s 1075 carbon steel is tough. I mean it is really tough So much for the Solobolo--let s talk about the sheath. In the case of my other Condor knives, this one comes with a thick and nicely finished leather sheath. With the others, the sheaths and the knives that go into them are totally compatible--the sheath holds the knife securely and allows it to be withdrawn quite easily. Not so the Solobolo sheath. C mon Condor--the sheath is just too small . Pushing the blade into the sheath requires great effort and you need even more muscle to pull it out. Ridiculous In hopes of stretching the leather, I have forced a wooden ball of about the right size I hope and which is attached to a dowel so I can pull it out into the sheath and then crammed a plastic tube over the dowel and into the sheath. It is bulging like a Burmese python that just swallowed the Everglades last raccoon. Will it stretch enough to make it a better home for the Solobolo We ll see. Five stars for the knife, minus a star for the sheath. P.s If I remember to do so I will report back with the results of my efforts to remold this sheath.Read full 20 ratings for Condor Tool Knife, Solobolo Knife, 8in Blade, Micarta Handle with Sheath at Amazon Reviews
