The arched Line-Loc compression system allows the load to be cinched tight in every direction side, front, and top as well as allowing additional gear to be lashed to the pack. The Line-Loc cord can easily be replaced if it wears out from extended use. Durable and versatile stretch mesh pockets on the bottom of the pack sides work well for water bottles, while the tall front center pocket is great for damp tarps or ultralight tents.

Do this by standing up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. Tilt your head forward and place your hands on your hips, thumbs to the back. With a flexible tape, have someone measure from the most prominent vertebra at the base of your neck to an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs. This will be your torso length. I put 7500 miles on my first Granite Gear Blaze AC 60 I loved the pack so much that when I decided to finally semi-retire her I bought this identical replacement. The suspension on the Blaze is good enough to comfortably handle 40 pound loads when necessary, but the pack is light enough to still be a legit choice for lightweight trail hiking. I ve owned a LOT of different packs over the years, ranging from the seven pound Dana Designs load-monster I carried on my first AT thruhike over two decades ago, to the ultralight ULA Ohm which was my first Blaze s immediate predecessor. Despite some initial reservations about the durability of the mesh material which makes up the water bottle holders and back panel, the Blaze proved to be as durable as any pack I ve ever used, and significantly tougher than any other sub-3lb pack I ve tried out. The Air Current design does a respectable job of keeping your back from getting soaked with sweat- vastly better than the ULA did, though not as well as a heavier pack with an arced frame. The water bottle pockets will easily hold two one-liter bottles the back panel is stretchy enough to hold raingear, or even a two person tent. On a trip with a friend I was able to get a Big Agnes Copper Spur 2 inside it . The mesh WILL stretch, and I eventually abraded numerous holes in it, but the tears won t grow, and can be easily patched. I also found the compression straps unnecessarily long, and trimmed 2-3oz of excess material off the pack when I first bought it. What else to say It s comfortable, tough, and a great value. If my knees hold up for another 7500 miles I could easily imagine buying a third Blaze some day.
